If you’ve read my previous reviews, you’ll know I’m a sucker for a good love story! Now, I understand these type of books aren’t for everyone; but if you’re looking for a quick read, search no further. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it’s pop-culture references. Mean Girls, Star Wars and even a jab at Demi Moore for having a hoarse voice. This is the kind of shit that I love! The social interactions with the characters are spot on, especially with the younger generation of “baby gays” and how they speak to one another.
Again, if you know my reviews, you know that I am not much for erotica and sex in books type of guy. The sexual interactions in this book are far and few, but when they did come across, I found myself ROCK HARD; practically drooling and wanting more! Ethan Day has a knack for portrayal and giving you a mind blowing image in your head. Overall, the love story is a game of cat and mouse, this is a chase that will have you running along with the main character in excitement.
Julian Hallowell is a hopeless romantic and living in his own fantasy of what love should be in his own head. He had been on countless dates, but every single one of them never seems to pan out. Now that Julian is approaching his thirties, he has it drilled into his brain that THE ONE must happen soon.
Danny is the “boy next door”, literally. He is Julian’s roommate and his second best friend. He had been the Apple of Julian’s eye since the first time they had ever met, but to no avail Danny is the oblivious “man slut” that fucks any good looking twink that he can get into his bed.
Over the length of time that they are living together, Julian’s heart begins to break down after witnessing so much of this and this is the start of Danny being pushed away. Does Danny realize his actions are weighing on Julian? Does Julian find love elsewhere? Or does this chase end in a bloody and mangled, head on collision?
Julian Hallowell is a twenty eight and a half year old bartender in a trendy gay club. He lives with his best friend Danny Wallace, thirty years old, but the two couldn’t be any more different. Julian is a normal looking guy, not the model type, who loves junk food and candy, smokes, and doesn’t exercise. Danny is a gym goer, eats healthy, and tries to get Julian to follow his lead and lead a healthier life. The cast of main characters are rounded out by his best friend Gabby, his divorced mother Delilah, and his new love interest Andy.
Julian is having trouble finding the kind of relationship he dreams of; Danny seems not to be in any hurry to be in one. Julian was in love with Danny, but after years of feeling rejected, he decides to get Danny out of his heart, and that dating was the way to go. He meets Andy, a real estate agent, and they start a hot and heavy relationship. Things don’t go as planned for Julian, and with the help of Delilah and Gabby, he comes to terms with his heart, and in the meantime, forces Danny to do the same.
This story is a fast paced funny, sad, heartwarming, and maddening read that grabbed me from the beginning and held me. I like Ethan Day’s style of writing, and his sense of humor. The witty repartee between Julian and Danny, between Julian and Gabby, and the relationship he has with his mother are endearing, and made me chuckle many times. I enjoyed the ride this book took me on. And the end made me cry for happy, which I just love in a romantic novel. This is a great book, and I highly recommend it
