I started writing in 2007, four years after I retired from teaching Special Education and then working as a sales rep for a friend’s gourmet food line. Writing hooked me and that, and photography, take up much of my time these days. I’m happy doing both.
I began my career with Torquere Press and have many books with them. I’ve written for Totally Bound, Silver, and MLR. I currently have about 30 books in circulation. I love what I do. Ideas come to me and the Notes app on my phone has titles like “Book idea”–“Second book idea”–“Another book idea” on it.
I’m always thinking about the one I’m working on with snippets of the next one in my head. I don’t write fast and I work on one at a time. I might have ideas for others, but I have to focus on the men of the hour, so to speak. I like character-driven stories. I think if you don’t love the characters, or have some kind of interest in them, then you don’t care about what happens to them. I’ve stopped reading books when I feel that I just don’t care about the lead characters.
I hope to continue doing this…is it a job when you love what you do? Anyway, I want to write for many, many more years as the ideas just keep coming. I hope you like my guys, their stories, and I can keep doing this for as long as these old eyes can see well enough to write.
Wanna know a secret? The first three letters of my name are initials of three friends who encouraged me to follow my dream. The last name? Well, I couldn’t use her name so I used her dog’s name, Miles.
