I’ve always been an avid fan of Gay romance when one of the characters is a Rocker. Sawyer has it all, he and the band are successful, he has money, he can sleep with any woman he wants and he has friends. It’s sounds like Utopia to me, well except for the sleeping with a woman part. But then Jake a childhood friend comes back into Sawyer’s life and turns his world upside down. Jake is the bands new head of security and he brings back all of the feelings that Sawyer has been repressing.
I didn’t really know what to expect when I picked this book up to read. I like to read something blindly and see what I feel like when I come out the other end of the book. This book will have some of your body parts pulsing and at other times you are wondering where that darn box of tissues are. The Author wanted to show us that no matter what your circumstances, you really need to accept who you are. If you want to be Happy and feel fulfilled, you really do need to come to those terms. No amount of wealth can bring that, only the acceptance of yourself, will bring that happiness.
The angst in this book is going to drive you crazy, for me I actually love that. I was saying “Oh Why” and “Oh for chrissakes just do it” many times. I enjoyed the dominance of Jake and that dominance is what carried the book and Sawyer. Sawyer needed Jake to be the man he is, he needed that push to accept.
Nicola does an excellent job of bringing her characters to life and blending 2 story lines together that felt complete. The first is the relationship with Sawyer and Jake and the second is the wacked up marabadoodle of a Mother along with someone who is trying to kill Sawyer. This story was extremely well paced, if you are like me I really don’t like reading a story where I get bored and this is definitely not one of those. The story line is strong and fun. Sawyer and Jake get there HEA but it is the road they take to get there that makes this book so incredible.
The Book Description:
As lead singer and guitarist of the internationally renowned Souls of the Knight, Sawyer Knight is living a life most men can only dream of. He’s surrounded by music, fame, wealth, women throwing themselves at his feet. He has everything…
Yet he has nothing.
Life as one of the world’s most sought after rock stars is tiring, oppressive and lonely. He spends every day being who the world wants him to be, who his manager tells him to be, who his mother expects him to be… all the while fighting against who he really is. Truth is, he’s used to it. He’s actually gotten pretty good at pretending… at living the lie.
Until Jake Reed, his ex-best friend and the only person who’s ever made him ‘feel’, waltzes back into his life as the band’s new head of security. Jake wants Sawyer – always has, always will. Now, he just needs to get Sawyer to admit that he feels the same…
“You will be mine, Sawyer Knight. The faster you try to run the quicker you’ll fall to your knees. Then, Sawyer… then you’ll be too weak to resist.”
