When we last left Rick he had been found beaten badly and taken to the Hospital. What happened at the opening of the story should have been heart wrenching, Rick couldn’t remember anything or anyone. This book felt a bit emotionless in the beginning, I never got the sorrow that should have been felt by Christian, the words were there but they didn’t ring the emotion out of me liked I would have hoped. During the time that Rick was trying to gain his memory back was flat for me. Once Rick gained his memory back the story seemed to fall in place and I felt more comfortable reading it.
You may remember Elliot and his daughter from the preceding book, they are back in book three and Elliot is becoming a main character. After Logan kidnaps Elliot’s daughter it is up to our team to get her back. Vanessa has again given us a story with loads of action and when the team is forced to split up, it helped to explore the relationship with Rick and Christian. I really thought that this was a genius way to explore the rekindling, instead of the guys getting a hotel or escape somewhere the dangerous circumstances forced the team to split. This allowed the author to concentrate on the main characters in this book while keeping the action and adventure a part of it.
I was lucky to have read all 3 books in a row so the cliff hanger didn’t bother me. Now that we are in a wait and see mode for book four we can only hope that it is on the horizon. I want to offer a bit of advice to the Author; Please leave your endings softer, don’t leave a book with such a heavy cliff hanger. This isn’t a weekly TV Serial where we can wait a week for the next installment. I don’t know when book four will come out but I don’t want my interest to wane.
The Book Description:
What would you do if the man you loved woke up and didn’t remember you?
Christian Storm was your normal kick ass bad boy, until his best friend admitted to having feelings for him.
One the heel of Rick’s confession, Christian gets his act together, and starts a relationship with Rick.
The case they’re working on together goes sour at the end and Rick is taken.
After a few days Rick is found broken and battered. When he wakes up in the hospital, Rick doesn’t know who he or anyone else is.
Now Christian has to find the man responsible for Rick’s abduction and attack before he strikes again. With his mind preoccupied with finding Logan, will Christian be able to convince Rick that they are deeply in love with each other? Or will Christian lose everything he holds dear?
Freeing His Mercenary is the continuation of Taming His Mercenary.

Scott’s Review: His Mercenary (Mercenary in Love #1)
Book 1 in the Series and we get to meet our Mercenaries. This story is about Chase and Cameron. Chase is the leader of a small group of elite mercenaries and in this book they were hired by the FBI to work a human trafficking organization. Cameron is an FBI agent on the case. The story is fast paced and the connection between Chase and Cameron was whoop whoop.
Vanessa really wrote a good story that let the characters fit together so easily. It’s one of those insta-love stories which isn’t bad. Small reads I don’t mind this type of story, this is the type of story that is meant to entertain and that is what I got out of it. It is also written to be a catalyst for the rest of the series which is does nicely, it got me to pick up Taming His Mercenary so that I could continue.
The Book Description:
Chase Black and his team are Mercenaries who go after Human Traffickers.
Working a case for the FBI, Chase meets special agent Cameron Allen.
Special Agent Cameron Allen has been with the FBI for five years.
Being an openly gay man in the agency is not easy, but he does his job well.
Chase and Cameron team up to find Angelo Marini, who has escaped from FBI custody. Working close together, Chase and Cameron can’t fight their attraction for each other, even if they wanted to.
What happens when a Mercenary and FBI agent come together to find a wanted fugitive and fall in love in the process?
Scott’s Review: Taming His Mercenary (Mercenary in Love #2)
Book Two it is Rick and Christian’s turn. Rick is seriously in love with Christian but Christian is a bit clueless. I enjoyed this one a little more than I did book one, it has a lot more action in it and I really enjoyed Rick getting Christian’s attention.
One of the highlights of this book was when Christian finally understood what everyone has been telling him. “Don’t miss out on what is right in front of you” It was also really nice to have Chase and Cameron as a couple in this book, it really felt like a continuation of book one.
The case in this book is a missing persons case. It turns out to be a human trafficking ring also, but when the victims are rescued the heat hits home. When one of the team is kidnapped it really brings out the ferocity of our mercenaries. This book does end on a cliff hanger but that is OK because Freeing His Mercenary is just a click away.
