My review is really quite simple; I LOVED THIS BOOK. I asked a few people if they thought that I could get away with just leaving it at that, and they said probably not. Here is a little secret, I couldn’t read Greg’s new book until I finished this one, that is how engrossed I became in this story.
J.A. Jaken is a masterful writer, she transports you to World so eloquently you don’t realize that you are going. For me reading a story that is not a contemporary setting takes me awhile to wrap my head around where the story is being told from, this was not the case with Through the Last Door, it was comfortable from the beginning. Imagine a fantasy time where Nobles rode in carriages and on horseback, a time of castles, wizardry and larger than life bugs, 🙂 this is where my mind was.
Kaori was in the neighboring country Gyre when he receives word that his Father, Akashi, the High Lord of Kazure has taken ill, Kaori rushes home but Akashi’s time was too short. With the death of his Father, Kaori becomes High Lord of Kazure and ruler of his people, Kaori isn’t the strong and intimidating man that his Father was and doubts his ability to rule. Kaori is smart though and decides that he is going to meet his people and he and his circle take off on a journey filled with surprises and action. Here’s another little secret, I was very nervous when I finished Part 1, I was so engrossed in the story that I didn’t want it to continue the track of going to each of his lands and having an adventure and so on and so on. J.A. Jaken took me on a different route with a totally different adventure, this goes back to the first 5 words of this review. I couldn’t have been happier with the new events in Kaori’s life and if you are like me you will care so deeply for everyone in the circle, J.A. gave them all so much life, even the villains.
For Kaori this was a story of enrichment, the finding of oneself. Kaori discovers who he is as High Lord and how he will rule. Kaori discovers who he is as a man and accepts the man that has always been in his heart, into his bed. When you finish this book you have a real sense of fulfillment that Kaori is happy and that he is the man he was meant to be. As each part of the story unfolds each adventure brings a piece of Kaori together to achieve what I just spoke of.
I cannot recommend this book enough, it is a story that will stay with me for quite some time. I told Greg when I finished it, that it was Perfect. It had just the correct amount of everything on each page to keep me glued to my Kindle. Greg doesn’t think I’ve ever said that of a book before, I hope you feel the same way when you read this EPIC novel. A couple things to wrap it up, the Editing is perfect and the Cover is extraordinary.
The Book Description:
