This was a fun and engaging short story.
I liked how the author flushed out the characters, although it was quick, but at only 33 pages she had to move pretty quickly. Jay was all about baseball and also in the closet, you know that spot, where the closet ends and Narnia begins. Even though there were 3 out gay players on his team, Jay didn’t have it in him to come out even though everyone was accepting of the other guys. Which is fine, everyone needs to make their own choices at the time it is right for them.
Enter the blond haired stud, aka Team Trainer, Liam. Jay is on the injured list for a pull in his thigh, you know the spot just below the balls. Well trainer Liam gets Jay’s pants off and begins working on Jay’s leg, things spring up and guys get embarrassed. Liam is the brave one and asks Jay out and then the story progresses.
I really like Jay and Liam, for one they were a little more mature, 30ish. Liam is confident as is Jay, except when it comes to expressing his sexuality. The sex: Liam and Jay fit is the best way to describe it and it felt really natural. The author almost got the full package, she briefly mentioned the light coating of blond hair on Liam’s chest, other than that I wasn’t afforded any other physical attributes other than built.
There was one uncomfortable moment for me and it was when Jay and Liam were having their first date, in Jay’s apartment and Jay asked “Let me ask you something. Where do you see this thing with us going?”. I actually cringed a little, I felt it out of place and not something that may occur, it’s not that it was wrong for that to come up in conversation, I feel it would have been better suited after they got to know each other better and perhaps more intimately. Other than that little blip I really enjoyed the book.
