This was my very first Rob Rosen book. I am still laughing. Who would think to write a book about a Post-Apocalyptic Zombie Drag Queen? Creature Comfort has been dead now for over 300 years but has retained her humor. There are not many living human people left after the tragedy and the Zombies now live on salt. Creature our heroine decided to stay in Utah and have an unlimited supply rather than going to New York to live. Since she is a Diva in her own right, she does not feel compelled to move to New York to prove it to anyone.
Creature has been wronged and she is going to see the Queen responsible for this travesty goes down in flames. Over the years have known more than my share of Drag Queens who were pickled in gin and vodka. After reading “Creature Comfort”, I must give serious thought if perhaps they too were zombies!
Creature and Dara seem like a cross between Laverne & Shirley, Divine and Edith Massey, with some Priscilla Queen of the Desert thrown in. Even in death though beauty and coordination has long left her Creature still has her wigs, style, and sarcastic wit. Creature soon finds that she also has a few super powers that she puts to use in taking town her evil arch nemesis and saving her man! She does not need a house to drop on someone but rest assured Creature is well prepared.
I like how the book ends. It is funny and witty. The writing is good and I love the characters who have names that just slay me. If you want, a fun read for the beach or the weekend this is a book for you! It had everything I could possibly dream of in a Zombie Drag Queen Extravaganza except for perhaps a passing reference to Tammy Wynette somewhere in the book.
Three hundred years into the apocalypse, centuries-old zombie queen, Creature Comfort, and the love of her afterlife, Dara Licked, leave their salt factory in Utah and find themselves beneath a gussied-up Lady Liberty, surrounded by a race of fabulous drag queens. Humanity (what’s left of it) is in dire trouble, attacked by unseen menacing forces, and only Creature can possibly save the day! Thus starts this hilarious tale of mystery and heart-pounding adventure, of friends old and new, of what it means to be alive and, most importantly, in love.
