Charlie and Gavin were best friends for a summer. Until a kiss between the two ruined everything. Now four years later, Charlie is desperate to get home for Christmas and Gavin has the last rental car in probably the whole Bay Area. A chance meeting at the airport brings them together- at least for the cross country trip.
Charlie has always known he was gay. He came out to his family, he didn’t hide it in high school, but it cost him his best friend. A freshman in college in California he is struggling to get home to Connecticut to his little sister who is finally in remission from leukemia.
Gavin tried not to be gay. After the kiss he shared with Charlie, he went to his father. Being told by him that he wasn’t gay, he was just confused, Gavin got a girlfriend and stayed with her all through high school. She helps him admit he is gay, but doesn’t know that he has been in love with Charlie since that fateful day.
I loved how Charlie and Gavin were basically forced together. Charlie needs to get home and Gavin can get him there. Things begin slowly with them, Charlie still thinking that Gavin is straight AND has a girlfriend. The more miles they put on the car, the more of the truth that comes out. Misunderstandings come to light, feelings are shared and tears are shed. I loved that neither character was a jerk. Even through the hurt and pain, they were genuinely nice guys who really missed each other.
And for a sweet story about two 18 year old boys, man- the sex was HOT! Dirty, filthy and delicious. Charlie has more experience than Gavin, but never makes him feel that way. They are just so right together my kindle almost caught on fire.
The ending, while fairly neat and tidy, was really satisfying. Gavin admitting proudly who he is, Charlie standing with him and a cute little sister egging them on. This was a perfect Christmas story of love lost and found again.
To be home for Christmas, they must bridge the distance between them.
Charlie Yates is desperate. It’s almost Christmas and his flight home from college has been delayed. For days. Charlie promised his little sister Ava he’d be home for her first holiday season since going into remission from leukemia. Now he’s stuck on the opposite coast and someone else grabbed the last rental car. Someone he hasn’t even spoken to in four years. Someone who broke his heart.
Gavin Bloomberg’s childhood friendship with Charlie ended overnight after a day of stolen kisses. With years of resentment between them, they don’t want to be in the same room together, let alone a car. But for Ava’s sake, Gavin agrees to share the rental and drive across the country together.
As they face unexpected bumps along the road, can Charlie and Gavin pave the way to a future together?
This is a gay holiday romance featuring new adult angst, enemies to lovers, and steamy first times.
After writing for years yet never really finding the right inspiration, Keira discovered her voice in gay romance, which has become a passion. She writes contemporary, historical, paranormal and fantasy fiction, and–although she loves delicious angst along the way–Keira firmly believes in happy endings. For as Oscar Wilde once said, “The good ended happily, and the bad unhappily. That is what fiction means.”
