I like the fact that this author is writing Taboo Fiction, I for one don’t mind getting out of my comfort zone and enjoy reading about the “forbidden”. For me it is only words on a page, I’m an adult and I’m choosing to read it so I don’t know what the deal is with some people that get up in arms about it. That’s my little political rant.
The author did a good job of letting the characters evolve throughout the story, it never felt forced it was pretty natural. Daniel arrives on the island dressed in his Wall Street 9’s and finishes the story in just a pair of board shorts. As the story progressed and Daniel learned more about the island and it’s inhabitants, his business shellac slowly ebbed away revealing a much nicer and caring person.
Years ago when Daniel told his family that he was gay, his Father took off and he hadn’t heard from him in 8 years. Daniel grew to hate the man that left his family, feeling that his coming out had something to do with the reason his Father left.
Now to the Taboo part…what a surprise for Daniel when he finds his Father on the island. The confrontation between the 2 men was well written and the tension after was very plausible, even the intimacy was very well written. There are basically 2 sex scenes in this book, the first one is fairly believable but the second was not. The thing with this Author’s sex scenes is that they come from a feeling of porn, where everything fits nice and easy, no prep, no burn just pure bliss (like being on a slippery slide, WHEEE). God I hate that, this book is romance fantasy not porn, so sex has to have realistic aspects to it. This is where I get upset. In my opinion this book would have been a 4.5 or 5 star read if the sex had been left out, or if it had been made believable. I really like the story and the characters, the island setting and inhabitants were colorful and added much to the story, it felt like a place I would want to go and relax.
At only twenty-one years of age, Daniel Hastings is a young man headed for the top of his game. As Assistant Chief Acquisitions Assessor for a major property development firm, it’s Daniel’s job to assess the viability and investment potential of land opportunities, usually bringing in millions of dollars in profits for his firm. The key to his career is to convince the previous owners of the land to part with their precious properties, and Daniel has found that everything is for sale… at the right price.
That is until he arrives on Saint Etienne, a tiny Caribbean island that a major resort chain intends to develop into a billionaire’s playground. It’s up to Daniel to assess the situation and convince the villagers to sign over their island home… and if they refuse, Daniel and his colleague are under strict instructions to find any legal loophole they can to snatch the untouched piece of paradise out from under its owners.
But there’s one inhabitant on this island Daniel wasn’t expecting to find—the man who walked out of Daniel’s life just when the two of them where beginning to understand one another.
Can Daniel believe in second chances? Will he discover there’s more to life than profits and acquisitions? Or will his career take priority over the life he was destined to live?
