This story has everything I want in a story. Kane represents the ultimate wounded hero as far as I am concerned. He is a belligerent, entitled, greedy, and bratty magpie shifter with no one on his side. He was not wanted by anyone, unless there is something Kane could give them. He is abused, used, disregarded, a disrespected soul where he never had a chance to experience unconditional love….his coping mechanism is full of destructive habits and behavior. He breaks my heart because there are so many “Kane”s in the world and seen as a denizen of society….and then Kim Dare created Kane’s other half, a dominant shifter male with the name Everett. Everett is humble, down to earth, controlling, loving, protective and alone. He is exactly what Kane needed. A solid male with heart and faith, someone who is able to show selfless love to reassure Kane, he is worth all the love and loyalty.
I cried, giggled, frowned, cried and swooned in sheer delight as I read this story. This is a beautifully written erotic love story with a heartwarming ideal D/S dynamic. Everett is a Dom for any submissive person. He is the cream for their apple pie…whisky for their coffee with cream.
This story shows a genuine struggle of a person with addictions too….as I read this story, I felt more compassion for those who never really had a chance for a better things in life.
I applaud Kim Dare on writing this wonderful story.
Everet has found his perfect place in the nest. As a raven, he’s ideally suited to his new role in the nest’s security flock. Some of the jobs it entails have been far more enjoyable than others, but when he’s called to retrieve a magpie, who’s got himself into trouble in a local human club, it becomes a truly life changing experience.
Magpie shifters have always been looked down on by other avians. Just as attracted to shiny things in their human bodies as they are in their avian forms, everyone knows they’ll do anything for money—and they’re not above stealing what they can’t get by more honest means.
Kane knows what being a magpie means, and he’s got the bruises to show for it. When Everet rescues him from his latest scrape, Kane knows better than to believe the raven will actually take an interest in him and his welfare, but it’s just possible that Everet is different to any other man Kane has ever met.
Please Note: This book is best read in order as part of the Avian Shifters series. The previous stories are Duck! and Celebrate.
Please also note: This is the second edition of this title. It has been tweaked and re-edited, but the story hasn’t changed.
Regardless of the gender of her characters or the different genres they inhabit, from short stories to full-length novels, there are three things Kim always wants to give her characters–kink, love, and a happy ending.
