The story begins with Jake coming home after dropping out of Princeton a year prior to moving. He was going to teach history and psych at one of his hometown schools. Jake had quit the Master program because he was grieving. He badly needed the love of his friends, especially his best friend, Logan. He and Logan had grown up together and gone to college together. Jake had not once thought that Logan was anything other than straight, since he had walked in on him screwing some girl Jake had been dating. He had always been in love with Logan, but would never risk their relationship of best friends by spilling that information. Hell, he hasn’t even told Logan he was gay.
Logan had thrown Jake a homecoming party and 50 of their friends were well on their way of being drunk. Logan had one of those degrees that was useless, as far as landing a job was concerned – especially in this town. So he had taken a course to learn bartending and had been doing that since he got his certificate. He looked and acted the part of, “bad boy,” but underneath that persona was a kind, romantic man. Hell, he had even kept the couch he was caught screwing on by his best friend. It reeked, but had too many memories for him to throw it out. He also bought a rundown house with the little money he had saved and hoped to restore it slowly, with any extra money he had left from his job. He had all the things that meant something to him – well, everything but Jake. He had never told Jake that he was bi and he definitely had never told anyone he was in love with Jake.
This book was not one I could put down after picking it up. Why? Because the story was mostly told through one long night of the two men coming clean to each other and showing their love with every kiss, touch and hot sex all night long. How do you put down a book in the middle of a hot love scene? Before I knew it , I had a lot of information about each man and was a few pages from the end. I’ve said this many, many times, but I’ll say it again – I love hot sex scenes that are well written and move my heart and the earth under my feet, just like it did Logan and Jake.
I am giving this book 4..5 Hot, Cotton Candy Stars. Why? There were a few areas that I was unsure who was doing what. Did I like this book? No – I loved it. Highly recommended for those who enjoy getting right to the steaming stuff with pretty words and promises mixed in for good measure.
One night or the rest of their lives.
Jake Benefield knows he has to let go of the crush he’s had on Logan Riley for four long years. He leaves to pursue a graduate degree only to discover love and loss. Home again, the last thing he expects is for Logan to confess his feelings for him. Can their friendship survive a cold winter one night stand or is Logan looking for more than Jake is ready to give him?
Warning: Need You Now was previously published with this title as well as Midnight Clear. Other than title there are no significant changes to the story. Thank you, Mercy.
Mercy Celeste is the pen name and super hero persona of mild mannered MJ Colbert….which is bull, I’m not mild mannered. I was, in fact, raised in a barn–or several. We even had grain silos. My motto growing up, anything a boy can do, I’m right behind him doing it just as well or better.
