Mark wants to go to College only he and his family are unable to afford to send him. His Mother is working extra shifts to get the money together, Mark doesn’t know what he is going to do until Eric makes a suggestion that will change his life. Mark met Eric at orientation and they have been keeping in contact via email so when Mark tells Eric about his problems Eric suggests that Mark rush the fraternity Eric belongs to. He’ll get a place to stay and with that he would be able to afford school.
The author showed us that if you want something bad enough you’ll do most anything in your power to achieve it. This is the bare bones of the story and the Author built off of that statement, what we got was an extremely well balanced story. She did a great job of giving us Mark’s background, how he felt and the love he had for his Mother, and all that she was sacrificing so that Mark could go to school. Of course the twist in this story is Eric never mentioned that this was a Gay fraternity that Mark would be rushing. I guess the conversation of girlfriends or boyfriends never came up during the correspondence between Mark and Eric, I thought this was really cute.
Self confidence is a big thing with me, I really enjoy a strong character in the book. This showed throughout the book on how well Mark adapted to all of the hazing rituals that were put forth to him. One of my favorite scenes was the disciplinary scene that Mark went through with “Big Brother Psycho”, it was new and inventive, at least for me and what I have read. Mark’s character persevered throughout the book, he achieved what he wanted and he also found out something about himself that he readily accepted.
There is only one thing that I felt missing and that was I didn’t get any character visuals. I want to know what my characters look like, whether they are hairy or smooth, light hair or dark hair and even short or tall. I caught a glimpse of what Ash, Patrick and “Big Brother Pounder” looked like but I really missed out on Mark. 🙁
Book Description Desperate for a place to stay while attending school, Mark pledges a frat he knows little about. Soon after his arrival on campus he starts to notice strange things about the frat he’s chosen to rush. When he realizes he’s pledging a gay frat Mark must decide between dropping out and possibly having to leave school, or continuing on and enduring each sexy trial his Big Brothers can come up with.
