I am going to start by saying this is not your normal, sappy male/male romance.
The story is hard and gritty, contains some extremely heavy scenes, and is one of the deeper books of this genre that I have read. It can be very painful to read because of the realistic aspects that the story contains. I will discuss this after the synopsis.
Jordan Kane is the lead for the band No Rules, a popular and very recognizable group. Jordan and his best friend Daniel have been playing together since they were kids when Daniel was thrown into Jordan’s family.
Jase Hewitt is the bodyguard hired to protect Jordan from his unruly fans and himself. He was in a band when he was younger, so knows what the pressure and fans can be like, and so is very protective of Jordan.
Unexpectedly, the two fall for each other, and thus starts a relationship that pushes both of their bounds, and is one of those constantly stressed bonds that are so easily broken, but can also strengthen the players if they can get through the hard parts.
This story, as I said earlier, is filled with realistic scenarios that make it a much different book than many. The first is the way the authors deal with drug abuse and alcoholism. There is no skimming the issues, but they deal with it head-on and realistically. There is no sugar coating here. The pain and the sadness that these addictions lead to are dealt with truthfully and brutally.
The other part of this book is it’s dealing with some sexual practices that are extremely dangerous, and often unknown to many of us who are your typical white-bread type people. It hit on breath play and the dangerous practice of strangulation during orgasm. It was scary to read, and at the same time, sexual and fascinating. I’m not going to try it because I am not that daring or stupid, but it was a real turn on to read about, which made the way the authors described and dealt with it extremely interesting.
This is a hard-hitting, tension-filled read that will keep you into it the whole way through. There is an honesty to it that is refreshing, even if it is hard to read sometimes. The characters are wonderfully developed, and therefore you can feel the stress and pain that they go through. Such an amazing book!!
Book Description On the surface, rock star Jordan Kane has it all. His band No Rules is burning up the charts and headlining a world tour. His bodyguard doubles as a hot, kinky boyfriend who knows just how to push all his buttons. But behind the scenes, he’s suffocating.
Jase Hewitt never imagined he’d have a shot at bedding the larger than life rock star – never mind dominating him – but now he’s worried he’s in over his head. Jordan’s kinks run deep, dark, and sometimes dangerous, putting Jase’s desires to both pleasure and protect him at odds.
They might have a fighting chance at finding the safe, happy medium between what Jordan needs and what Jase is willing to give, but there’s one problem: Daniel, Jordan’s childhood best friend, the band’s talented guitarist — and a volatile, hard-partying drug addict. Jordan is determined to save Daniel from himself, but Jase has been there, done that, and desperately wants to protect Jordan from the inevitable heartache of watching an addict self-destruct.
When Daniel goes off the rails again, Jordan calls off the tour to get him help. Tension within the band skyrockets and pressure from the record label sends Jordan into a dark spiral. Now his band — and his life — are balanced on a knife’s edge, and Jase is the only one who can pull him back… but only if the echoes of his own tragic past don’t push him over first.
