I don’t think I’ll ever forget the first time that I met Lynn. It was at GRL in Atlanta and I was sitting in on a panel that she was a part of. She was fascinating, she drew me in with her warm sense of humor and the passion she had when she talked about her books. I just had to ask her a question so I raised my hand and said;
“Hi Lynn, I think I am the only person in this room that has not read one of your books (an Oh or Huh could be heard from others in the audience), tell me about your books and why should I read one of them?” She gave a little laugh and chuckle and proceeded to tell me, she was so pleasant about it.
It is still one of my fondest GRL memories.
So, it gives me great pleasure in welcoming Lynn to the blog today as she reminisces about the first GRL and she also brings a couple of Giveaways with her. The first, a chance to Dine with the Author and the second that you can register for here is an ecopy of her Newest Release; Locke & Blade (Locke & Blade of Waterford Patrol Book 1).
Its seems as though not much time has passed between the first GRL in New Orleans and this next one in Kansas City. I remember when Ethan first emailed me and asked if I wanted to help put this thing together, this retreat to give back to the readers of gay romance, first started by Carol Lynne at her home. They wanted to expand it, and at the time we had no idea how many would want to come.
The first year we had a much smaller attendance than the number this year, and the hotel we chose was in the heart of the French Quarter. That year, there were no panels, no workshops. We just threw in all the fun things you’d want to do if you came to visit in Nola. Restaurants with authors, rides on the streetcars, a book sale on a riverboat, trips to the zoo, museums, a party at one of the most famous gay bars ever, and even a tour of a cemetery.
Sure, there were a few hiccups. Some of the hotel was under construction. Some missed the tours. But all in all, we were there to show our readers we loved them and without them we as authors are nothing.
It’s still the attitude I take for each and every GRL since. Even though I no longer am organizing, I love helping by volunteering, and being on panels or giving workshops. Last year, I gave away a print book of It Takes a Hero at the book signing. This year, I’ll be giving away a print book of my two novellas Doms of The Chamber at the author meet. I’ve been asked to bring some of my print books to sell, so I’ll do that too at the book signing.
I’m holding a contest to Dine with the Author, my own personal meal, for three lucky attendees. If you want to enter just email me at email@example.com and put in the subject line Dine with Author, so I know you want a chance.
For right now, I’m giving away an ebook copy of my latest release, Locke and Blade. Available at all the usual places. Just comment here and I’ll pick a lucky person. I’ll wait for a few days to make sure people have a chance to comment and then will announce the winner here, so keep watching the blog for all the other wonderful authors lined up to post.
See you in October!
