The characters in this book Macon and Wade are what I call Life Long Lovers. These guys have known each other their entire life, they grew up together and learned how they each felt about the other, it’s the kissing that does it everytime 🙂 . From what I can tell from the story they have only been with each other and no one else, thus Life Long Lovers. I find this so romantic and when you have 2 sexy as heck cowboys as the main characters, whhhooo. “Someone please turn down the AC”. As long as we are talking about hot guys, I want to thank Hennessee for giving us a description of the characters, while reading I could picture and feel what the characters were like.
Oh Yeah, we have hairy chests !!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!
Both guys work on their respective families ranch, in a small town with little tolerance for the “Gays”. This is our angst trigger in the story, even though Macon and Wade were forcibly outed by a nosy photographer, they kept their lives private and wouldn’t even spend the night with each other. ‘Afraid of what the neighbors would say’
Team Roping a contest in Rodeoing was what Macon and Wade excel at. They were so good that they were invited to participate in a Gay Rodeo in Montana, which they accepted. Here Macon and Wade were free to express themselves with each other, although Wade still was reserved. I really liked this part of how the story was written. Hennessee gave us great insight into the mind of Wade and his struggles. Does he tow the line and go back to the family ranch, live a life of secrets or accept who he is and what he has with Macon? I really like Macon and felt connected to him, he was a stronger character in the sense he knew what he wanted but was willing to do whatever Wade decided to do. This may seem like he is a follower, I saw it more as a deep rooted love, Macon wants Wade and a life together, wherever that road takes them.
This is the 1st book in the series and was an Excellent set up for the rest of the stories. I can’t wait to dig into the rest. You can find the series listing, if you follow the link to Hennessee’s Author page here on GGR-Review.
The Book Description:
Macon Sumner loves two things in the world. One is taboo, his best friend Wade Sutherland. His second love is the rodeo, where their problems begin. When a nosy reporter clicks a picture at the rodeo, capturing Wade and Macon kissing, life is never the same and neither are their relationships with their family and peers. As outcasts in their small, narrow-minded town, Wade and Macon feel the effects daily. Wade becomes secretive with their relationship, foolishly believing that hiding is the answer. What he doesn’t realize is how much harm he is inflicting on Macon by doing so. Sneaking away for intimate moments with Wade are as hurtful as the glares Macon receives from people who are supposed to be neighbors, friends. Even roping buddies have stopped inviting them to functions. He can’t stand how he feels or how Wade is treating him. When he receives a call from Zander Wesley, he sees a new life and opportunity for him and Wade. Note: This book is written in one point of view. Note: This book was previously available as a free read on Goodreads under the title Rough in the Saddle.
