If you are thinking that 8″ refers to the singular size of something……get your mind out of the sexual haze that the thought put you in.
This is a love story between 2 men that have faced and are currently dealing with hardships about their body image. This is a great story that reminds us that not all gay romance characters need to have a 6 pack and are chiseled. It also teaches us that bullying has an affect, name calling has an affect and the absence of the human touch can have an affect. This may seem like alot of topic for 40 pages but the way the authors covered these topics while telling us Mat’s story was excellently put together.
Mat has never had a positive influence directed towards him his entire life, it wasn’t until he joined Weight Fighters that things in his life changed. He wasn’t judged in fact he was accepted as the man that he is, overweight. He gained friends who wanted to spend time with him and be a part of his life. It was the look from Johnny that really gave Mat the initiative to work hard and lose the weight.
This is a cute little budding romance that showed us someone that had very little self confidence into someone that evolved into a man that was proud of who he is, and along the way gains himself a boyfriend.
Shy Mat finally gets a chance to break free from his parents and strike out on his own. But joining the local diet club, Weight Fighters, and hopping on the scales takes everything he has; does he have enough left in him to stick to his diet and act on his feelings for gorgeous Johnny who runs the group?
Flirty Johnny has staying power as far as diets are concerned, and all he wants is to win the Valentine’s Challenge. But meeting Mat changes everything. Can Johnny find the staying power to battle his own demons and get what he realizes he really wants – to win Mat’s heart?
