Why did I put a Spoiler Alert in the Title? This is an important story and my ability to review it without doing spoilers would have amounted to something that didn’t make much sense.
I had no idea what this book was about when I opened my Kindle. Piper sent me a message and wanted to know if I would review her new short story, I told her I could slip a short story in, so send it over. This book gives us a glimpse into a bullied teen and what he thinks is the only way out of it, suicide. It’s pretty grim and doesn’t make you happy reading it, what it does do is open your eyes. It made me think of stories of young people that were lost too soon for the wrong reasons.
Joey (he is the bullied teen) he has had enough, he has his Father’s pistol and is typing his goodbye note to his Mother when he pulls the trigger. Enter Luc, Joey’s spiritual guide after death, we then get the reason for the title of the book. Joey’s Choice was not whether to live or die it was whether to die or live. Piper does a good job in this part and I think it is the meatiest part of the book. This is also the part of the story that is so relevant to anyone that is bullied, depressed or haa the feeling of being inconsequential. Everyone is important and we don’t know what our meaning in Life is. By giving in to suicide can we be taking away from someone or a group of people something important that only you have to offer?
This book isn’t real big on story, this is a book that is more about meaning. I feel that Piper did such a good job with this book that I am going to give 2 Kindle copies away. See the Giveaway below. Talk about this book, gift it to anyone that is struggling, it may just be a book that someone needs to read.
