I love the way that Ethan Stone tells a story and this one will not leave anyone disappointed. Jody Jacobsen is a defendant in Judge Shawn Rosen’s small claims. Judge Rosen handles this rather humorous matter expediently. Kismet is at play and a chance meeting leads to an evening of mind-blowing passion throwing both men for a loop. Jody cuts and runs.
The rest of the book tells in wonderful detail how and why both men feel as they do and how they have come to their present circumstances. Shawn is very guarded, for him this tryst was a great risk, he has let out feelings, emotions that he has kept bottled up for so long, and there is no going back.
In his day job he is a man of authority, fairness and impartiality; Shawn finds his personal life is not so easily compartmentalized. There are other people to consider in Shawn’s life as well and Jody does not have the best track record.
Shawn is now putting his own life together, and trying to help Jody face his own demons. He struggles, wondering if he is wasting his time and investing all this energy on a lost cause. The tension is great. Shawn makes himself vulnerable but is never a victim or acts desperate. He never whimps out.
The court case that introduced them comes back to haunt them and we get to see if Jody will take advantage of this opportunity and stop running, and face his demons or wuss out again and run.
This is a great story; the sex is sizzling the characters are consistent and all the elements work together to make a great book. Shawn is a hot man who can handle power, authority and still move in gentleness, and compassion and be vulnerable all those elements in one person who is a nice guy at the same time is wicked hot.
Judge Shawn Rosen is about to take on the toughest case of his life. Small claims judge Shawn Rosen is comfortable in his career, but his personal life is another story. His twenty year relationship ended two years ago, but while he accepts the end, he hasn’t even started to move on. He lives a generic life.
Everything changes when Jody Jacobsen walks into his courtroom and Shawn is attracted to him. Following the case, they have a chance meeting which leads to a wild night. Waking up to cold sheets should have been a sign, but instead Shawn keeps coming back for more and eventually falls fast and hard—so hard he might be missing the clues that the commitment isn’t mutual.
There’s trouble when the case that brought them together could also tear them apart. Will Jody give in to his tendency to run, or will he finally be the man that Shawn deserves?
*Reader Advisory: This book contains a brief scene with a secondary character who has an adult baby fetish.
