This book has a violent beginning, I want you to be forewarned. It contains forced sex and murder. The thing is, the book needed this violence to bring a bit of realism to the rest of the story. It is what anchored Tor’s character and emotional characteristics and is what tied the whole story together.
I was literally plunged into a World that came with no explanation, this is a Slave society where Werewolves are enslaved and used in a Werewolf MMA arena. You won’t get a pretext of how this World came to be, it just is. I actually like that, why do I have to have an explanation for every darn thing? I personally like the confidence in an Author when they can do this and pull it off like Lynn Lorenz does with this book.
In this fighting arena there is a Challenger and a Champion, the Champion brings along his mate. If the Champion loses the fight he also loses his Mate to the Challenger. The fights are violent and as long as I reminded myself that these were not men fighting but werewolves, it was enjoyable.
This book isn’t all about the violence and the dark. It has a much brighter side to it that comes in the form of Romance, learning to love again and learning to trust. I find it difficult to explain why this happens as I would have to begin this with a Spoiler Alert. The author wrote a beautiful love story against this back drop of violence. I enjoyed how the apartment that Tor lived in became a different World in its own right, a place that emotions can be expressed and the characters were able to let their guard down and learn to Love and Live.
The story moved along very quickly and very smoothly. The book was well rounded, the actions that took place in the beginning were explained and dealt with. How do I mark a good story? One in which I don’t want it to end, a story that continues, a story that let’s me see the whole thing. This is one of those stories.
