From the very beginning of the book the Author grabs you and won’t let you go until you finish. The first 2 sentences read “Alexander Montgomery was in a lot of pain . Pain of his own choosing but pain nonetheless.”
We find Alex Montgomery bound and being whipped on a St Andrews Cross as we open the first page. Now not being one that understands the BDSM lifestyle it took me a little back but I continued on, what really drew me was a line that stated “…..this place Alex came when he needed solace.”, I’m thinking how can someone find solace and endure so much pain at the same time. This was so intriguing especially as the story progressed and the reader is not given any information as to why Alex was putting himself through the torment, the only insight we are given is that he needs it. Even at the climax of the activities Alex never completely filled the emptiness inside him.
Alex Montgomery is a very successful Novelist, his series of Novels is being made in to a TV Series and basically revolves around Carter West, a world-renowned photographer, used to taking pictures in war zones, jungles and other far flung places, and a fashion model called Gillian Banks. Christopher Sage (everyone calls him Sage) is the actor hired to portray Carter West. Sage is your perfectly handsome man whom your Mother falls all over herself for. Sage is also the man that Alex would like in his life, unknown to anyone Carter was written for Sage by Alex.
Needless to say I’m not going to ruin the plot when I say that when Alex and Sage get together it makes the candle wax melt. I really loved how the Author wrote the sexual scenes between Alex and Sage, they were so intimate so sexy, she definitely gets an “A”. Another aspect of the writing that I really loved was how different Alex and Sage were written, right off the bat we know Sage, we pretty much know that there aren’t going to be any big surprises in reference to his character. Alex on the other hand is the complete opposite, the emotional journey that the Author takes us on as we learn of who Alex is and why he needs saving is brilliant. As the story progresses pieces of Alex’s life are revealed which help put the pieces of Alex Montgomery together. I felt like I was able to embrace the story and have my feelings ride the wave of words as Susan played out the story.
I want to address the BDSM portion of the book. Don’t let this aspect of the story deter your reading it. None of the scenes are so rough that you are unable to read them. The story line demands that the reader understand why Alex puts himself through these tortures and even though it is a small portion of the reading it is integral to the relationship building process that happens between Alex and Sage. How does Sage learn to deal with another man having these sessions with Alex?
The story has Twists and Turns, it has Murder and Mugging, it has Mystery and Mystique, it has Happiness and Heartbreak and it also has Loss and Love. All of these characteristics were woven in to a story that left you sitting on the edge of your sofa as you turn each page. It is so easy to say; ” I THOROUGHLY loved this book”. The only real disappointment was when I was finished and by that I mean “The Story Ended”.
Alex and Sage we wish you all of the Love and Support that you deserve, and I want to Thank You for taking me on your Journey.
