The Review:
We meet our MC Dave, at his mothers funeral, angry that on her death bed she confessed a secret she has been hiding from him for many years! We lean more about that secret later in the book.
We are then taken back to when Dave is much younger during the 1960’s. His only purpose in life is to be a happy hippy, sleep with the entire female population and smoke as much dope as humanly possible. While partying and meeting new friends Dave, meets many interesting people, some that will change the course of his life, some that will play on his conscience but no one more than Jon who he meets by chance and eventually realises that they have met for a reason.. They are soul mates and love each other with a passion!
“Ok it was a M/M read, I was getting confused and the constant bedding of females were distracting me from the story not only that but Dave was beginning to irritate the hell out of me”
Dave and Jon’s journey then takes us to some amazing locations that I could visualize extremely easily, their relationship grows at a slow pace yet it’s full of meaningful events that all come together later in the book and make you understand why the author had them behaving like rampant Rabbits in heat.
Friends and family play a huge part in this couples choices and eventually they both go their separate ways… But do they get a happy ending?
D. T. Peterson, is one clever author, he managed to keep my attention by slowly giving us a unique insight into this era as well as great character development, he weaves a story that captured my heart as well as my mind and had me actually loving the irritating Dave by the end of the book. This was a wonderful read, one that will play on my mind for a long time and I now wish I’d concentrated more while reading the first section of the book. It teaches us that our views and actions will effect our future and then we have to live with the consequences. My emotions were certainly all over the place for the last hour of this journey there are many twists and turns that will keep you guessing, worrying and if your asthmatic I advise you keep a inhaler near by as I got so chocked up I couldn’t breath! Warning!! don’t forget the tissues, OMG your going to need a box full. The ending was perfect even though I was sobbing, it’s certainly not your usual HEA but a well crafted epic love story, one I highly recommended!
Young and idealistic, Jon and Dave meet by chance, their friendship growing stronger and leading them to a place neither has been before. Though theirs is a love forbidden, which few understand, they journey across the country together and settle in San Francisco, where they are finally free to be together as they were meant to be. When life takes an unexpected turn, however, the two young lovers are torn apart by a secret which, if unveiled, threatens to bring great shame to the family of one determined to keep them on the straight and narrow.
