Aaron Riley is in for the month of his life, full of surprises and hurt, and some other unexpected things, too. The day his month began was the day he walked into the Paranormal Detection Agency, and introduced himself to John Atkinson, also known as Jack. He has been having strange occurrences in his home, and even though he doesn’t believe in ghosts, he can find no explanation, so goes to Jack to see if he can help.
The first visit Jack makes to the house ends with the totally unexplainable fact that the kitchen attacks them. But Jack has seen this before; he has a gift, and so can detect the unexplained. He has a limited successful business for this very reason. And that begins Jack’s hunt to solve the haunting of Aaron Riley and his beautiful home. It also begins the complication of a growing attraction for each other.
Part of what makes this book fun is the comedic pauses that happen between Jack and Aaron. Imagine Aaron being attracted to a man whose work involves something he can’t explain and doesn’t understand. And he often doesn’t believe what he is seeing or hearing, either!
Ms. Brook has also included some very well-written sex scenes that add to the pleasure of the book.
The characters are fun. They are well developed, and you get to like them. They are as believable as a paranormal investigator, and the man who falls for him can be. And I have to say, the suspense of the book, the drama, finding the answers to the questions the haunting brings about is fun, and well done in the tradition of some of the mystery writers of our time. I really enjoyed The Paranormal Detection Agency, and recommend it for a quick, fun read that is not just like everything else. You will like it!
