Logan, the loner whose job it is to feed the animals and dispose of the kitchen garbage, is the hero of this story. It takes place in the south, just after the end of the Civil War. He is the black son of a white mother he never knew, and a black father who was killed just a couple years before the time of the story. Logan knows that he is different from other boys, and so keeps to himself to keep out of trouble.
Deklan is the son of the owner of the plantation. His father Dante and his mother Priscilla have decided that Deklan is at an age to be married, and have decided to throw a grand celebration to give Deklan the choices of the eligible young ladies that are available from the surrounding area. The problem is that Deklan isn’t interested in ladies, and doesn’t wish to marry.
This is the very basic start of this romantic, sexy, heartwarming story of the two young men as they live their lives and discover each other and the meaning of love and relationship.
This book has some fun twists. One is the very basis of the story, which you will recognize as you read. There are two very special secondary characters that make this story complete. They are the mirror man, a man who visits Logan one night, and changes his life. The other is Jeddah, an old and dear friend of Deklan that shows Deklan the meaning of true friendship.
The Plantation Affair is very well written. It is fun, and as mentioned, romantic and sexy. The sex scenes are hot. Gregory Jonathan Scott really knows how to describe the initial meeting and the sex that follows from two inexperienced men who discover the deep pleasures of love and sex.
All of the characters are very well developed. You can feel the anger, the love, the friendship that the characters feel for each other. It also gives a real sense for what life may have been like in the era, and how hard life was for black people in the aftermath of the Civil War, and how the color distinctions still ruled the thoughts of the white landowners. The Plantation Affair is a wonderful book.
