When Susan has a New Book Release it is a very highly anticipated event for me. I can honestly say that I am a Susan Mac Nicol groupie, I just Love her writing style. Waiting For Rain is her first published book by Dreamspinners Press and I couldn’t be happier for her.
This story takes us to Stamford in Lincolnshire, England and quite a bit of the story took place at the Duck and Drake Hotel. Through Susan’s writing and descriptions of the Village and the Hotel it was so easy to picture this Upscale Hotel and Village in my mind. This is part of why I love Susan’s writing style, when reading her books she gives us such finite details that just meld into the story. It brings me the reader into the World she has created.
Toby Prentiss is the General Manager of the Duck and Drake Hotel and Rain Engel has been hired to build the new bar in the Canterbury Lounge at the Hotel. An instant attraction is felt by both. What this turns into is sort of a “Courtship” if you will. The Author takes us through the ups and downs of dating through the eyes of Toby and Rain. As each character learns of each others past, how they process it and accept or deny it. All of the secondary characters are so real as is the whole book, you can really believe that everything that is happening, can happen and is not part of a fantasy world.
You won’t be disappointed on this journey of Love. You will laugh and cry and you will never look at sheep the same way again (NO NOT THAT – Get your minds out of THAT gutter). I want to read this book again, I want to meet all of the characters, I want to be able to touch what I have read. This is the way that this book made me feel when I finished it, a part of Waiting For Rain.
Geesh, before I forget I have to make mention of Pole Dancing. If you have ever checked out Susan Mac Nicol you know that she is a HUGE fan of Male Pole Dancers and has even started a Facebook page dedicated to the Art. She has written Rain as a Pole Dancer and he gives a Performance in the book to help raise money for a family with medical issues. This was HOT and not just the Pole Dancing the whole book.
Book Description The village of Stamford, the quintessential chocolate box English scene, seemed an impossible dream for foster kid Toby Prentiss. Now he’s found a home among the haystacks and village fairs as the general manager for the Duck and Drake Hotel. With the fears and demons from his youth hidden away in this bucolic oasis, he’s very protective of who he lets in. Until he stumbles across shirtless carpenter Rain Engel building the hotel’s new custom-designed bar.
Working in the countryside, Rain prepared to face his biggest fear: sheep. He didn’t expect to deal with his second biggest fear: commitment. Toby’s controlled tough guy façade coupled with his “find happiness where you can” optimism calls to Rain like nothing before. While Rain may be an exhibitionist, his romantic history forces him to hold his emotions close. As their relationship develops, secrets from their pasts drive a wedge between them: the ex-boyfriend who tore apart Rain’s trust and Toby’s history with the law. But can the secrets hiding among the quirky villagers bring them together? With missing sheep, pole dancing at the winter festival, and a crippling drought, everyone is waiting for Rain.
